Our Programme of Meetings
2018 and 2019

15th November 2018

We’re showing the 1973 film
“Take Me High” starring Cliff Richard, (and for those of a certain age), other stalwarts of UK cinema and TV like Hugh Griffith, Deborah Watling, George Cole and Richard Wattis

It’s an old fashioned 1hr 30min feature set largely around the canals of the West Midlands, and is of interest as an archive - ’the way we were’.

20th December 2018

Society Christmas Dinner and
Social Evening

Our Christmas Dinner date, and there will be a raffle night to remember!
Don’t donate any of the old rubbish you got last year, and think no-one will notice….! We know where you live,
as someone once memorably said!

FRIDAY, 25th January 2019

Please note the new Friday date, to
accommodate staff holidays at the Navigation.
By coincidence, it is also Burns Night, a night of celebration of the legacy of Scotland’s best known poet.
The Navigation will provide a Burns
Supper, with all the trimmings, and you’re
encouraged to come appropriately dressed -
there will be prizes in various categories.

21st February 2019

For this meeting, we have a
presentation by Richard Hamp of the Shropshire Union Canal Society about the Montgomery Canal Restoration. More information nearer the date.

21st March 2019

Our previous Waterways Manager, Ian Lane, has moved on to be part of
the team looking to restore the
Round House in Birmingham, and bring it back to proper use.
He is also involved with the regeneration around the Digbeth canals as part of the HS2 scheme, and ‘Coventry2021’ -
The UK City of Culture preparations.
As if that is not enough, he is also
looking towards the Commonwealth Games in 2022, organising a canoe slalom down Farmers Bridge locks.
An interesting portfolio, not to be missed.

18th April 2019

SonACS AGM

Our Guest Speaker will be Adnan Saif, the recently appointed Regional Director of CRT for the West Midlands.
He will be well settled to his new post
by then, and should be able to provide a
comprehensive overview of developments in our area, especially our canal and the possible creation of the Canal Conservation Areas in Warwickshire.

THE MEETINGS

Our meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at "The Navigation" in Wootton Wawen, starting at 7:30pm.

Many members have a meal in the pub beforehand, meeting at 6:00pm.
If you want to meet at 'The Navigation' for a meal beforehand from 6:00pm, please either e-mail Alasdair Lawrance, or phone (01564) 783766

It is an excellent pub, and we're quite lucky to have it for our meetings.

To cover speaker expenses, we have a £1 per ticket raffle at the meetings, with the prize of a bottle of wine. Although coffee is no longer provided in the interval, it is available at the bar along with other drinks.

From time to time the Society also arranges other Events
